Christmas and Kids

December is finally here and I can tell!  The kids are so excited to do anything that has to do with Christmas.  I started a Helping Hands Tree.  When the kids see someone in the class doing something to help another student, they write it down a green paper hand and we put it up on a board.  Our goal is to use all the hands to make a Christmas tree that fills the whole board by The time we go off for winter break.  They already have a ton of hands on the board it's exciting!  I'll have to go in search of a camara, so I can post a picture.  :0)

And we're back!

We got back on track today!  My class is the best class ever!  We had so much fun!  They all listen so well and are hard workers.  They also can joke around and they're all friends.  I love it!  I can't wait until tomorrow when we can do some fun stuff in math and reading and writing and art and our book study!

Today I am wearing black pants and a green shirt.  As we were getting ready to go home, I put on my black coat and buttoned it up to go outside for pick up duty.  One of the boys came and asked me if I knew the movie Men in Black.  I did.  "Teacher, you could be Woman in Black!"  He was so excited :0)  I'm glad to know that I look capable of saving the world from destruction!

Oh the adventures of teaching!!!

Getting Back in the Groove

Today.  7:15 faculty meeting.  Snow warnings.  District wants us out of the school by 2.  As one of the two teachers in my school that has to rotate I don't usually get into my room until 1:30ish.  Problem.  I cannot set up my room in 30 minutes.  Guess I'm going to have to work this weekend... :'(

On a lighter note, I ended up getting most of my stuff moved in to the room during lunch.  Then the teacher whose class is going off track graciously let me come hang stuff up while they did an activity.  I was hanging up my multiplication monsters and one of the boys shouted, "Wow!  You are great at decorating!"  I laughed.  Really hard.  There's nothing like an innocent child making you feel better about yourself with just one sentence! :0)

SEE the Future

Years ago I began a path to becoming a teacher.  Little did I know that it would be a path full of obstacles as well as fun.  Each day is full of new things to learn and funny stories to share.  Now I'm in my third year of teaching and the journey of discovery continues.  My mission statement:  SEE the Future:  Strengthen, Encourage, Empower.  Some days are hard, but remembering that I'm doing this job to help children become the best person they can be helps me to press on.  Teaching is one of the most challenging and rewarding careers!  Hope you enjoy hearing about my crazy, joyful days of being a teacher.
